Avid digital workflow brings King Kong to life

2 January 2006

Worldwide: Avid Technology, Inc. announces the use of end-to-end Avid post-production workflow by companies providing editing and digital effects services to Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong. The companies – Big Primate Pictures (editing) and Weta Digital (digital effects) – utilised an all-digital production environment for the movie. The workflow passed through 11 Media Composer Adrenaline systems; three Avid Unity shared-storage solutions; an Avid Xpress Pro system; a Digidesign Pro Tools HD system; and the use of Avid DNxHD for HD screenings. Jamie Selkirk, the academy-award-winning editor for Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and supervising editor for Big Primate Pictures says, "We used nine Avid Media Composer Adrenaline editing systems linked to more than 20 terabytes of Avid Unity shared storage, and the systems were key players in King Kong's post-production, editorial and visual effects pipeline."
