Irdeto grows in Asia Pacific

Singapore- Irdeto, provider of content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile networks, has opened a new office in Singapore and is adding to its facility in Beijing and regional offices in South Korea, Australia, Thailand and India to bring the total number of worldwide offices to 13. It's also expanding operations in India, for which it is recruiting a new India country manager.
Irdeto has been selected to accelerate digital migration of Chengdu Cable's operations which has over 1.2 million subscribers. Chengdu Cable will deploy Irdeto Digital TV solution to simulcrypt with its existing Novel Tongfang conditional access (CA) system first rolled out in 2006. The first 50,000 Irdeto smart cards will be delivered to Chengdu Cable in September 2007, and a total of 400,000 smart cards are expected to be shipped before June 2008.
The company has also partnered with Broadcast Australia, and head-end systems vendor Thomson in a three-month DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld) trial in Sydney that started on May 7. Its mobile broadcast CA solution was deployed to secure content across mobile services and devices, and provided five encrypted channels for the trial in the Sydney metro area.
Irdeto worked with Taiwanese device manufacturer GIGA-BYTE Communications to co-develop the Pocket PC GSmart t600 phone that can receive DVB-H signals. Its mobile TV CA technology was integrated with GIGA-BYTE's hardware which provides a Windows' Mobile OS and smartcard interface.
Irdeto inked an agreement with India's Sun Direct TV to protect its new DTH satellite TV service, expanding from Sun Direct TV's usage of Irdeto's technologies in its direct-to-operator and cable TV systems in southern India. Irdeto's PIsys CA solution is used to secure the new DTH pay TV platform for launch later this year. An initial order of 500,000 Irdeto smart cards has already been made for the new system.
Finally, the company has also been selected by worldwide systems integrator and manufacturer, ZTE Corporation, as the preferred content security partner for its end-to-end IPTV system to be sold worldwide. ZTE will incorporate Irdeto's secure content delivery platform in its IPTV ECO system to deliver multimedia services over IP networks.
