Discovery Networks Asia and Readers’ Digest Asia to publish Discovery Channel Magazine

Singapore - Discovery Networks Asia and Reader’s Digest Asia, part of The Reader’s Digest Association, Inc., global publisher and marketer of books, magazines, music and videos have partnered to launch Discovery Channel Magazine, a bi-monthly magazine to debut across the region on Feb 22, 2008.


Comprising subscriptions and newsstands sales, Discovery Channel Magazine will have an initial circulation of 100,000 copies, primarily in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It is also available in China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The magazine will roll out in other Asia-Pacific markets later in 2008.


Tom Keaveny, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Discovery Networks Asia, said, “We are now also able to offer our advertisers a fully-integrated campaign, incorporating on-air, online, on-ground and print, with a regional platform to reach a broad base of affluent readers across Asia Pacific.”

Discovery Channel Magazine is aimed to demystify science and technology; to provide an understanding of the environment; to showcase knowledge seekers and adventurers; decode animal behavior; and to provide and understanding of history. Editor-in-chief of the English edition of Reader’s Digest in Asia, Jim Plouffe, will oversee the Discovery Channel Magazine. Reader’s Digest will form a separate team of writers and designers to work on the new magazine, which will be based in Singapore.


The Discovery Channel Magazine will retail in Singapore for S$7.90 ($US5.40), in Malaysia for RM$14.90 ($US4.50), Philippines for PHP250 ($US5.80), in Hong Kong HKD45 ($US5.80), in Taiwan TWD180 ($US5.60), in Thailand THB190 ($US6.00), in Japan JPY987 ($US8.95) and Korea KRW5,600 ($US7.15). Discounts will be offered for yearly subscriptions.
