FremantleMedia’s Idols franchise will go regional with the first ever Asian Idol. To be held in Indonesia, the singing talent competition show will be jointly produced by Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia (RCTI) and FremantleMedia to premiere on Nov 24 from 2000 - 2130 hours on RCTI.
Asian Idol is the culmination of the Idol searches in Indonesia, India, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, and will feature the winners and one judge from each country. Ata and Daniel, hosts of Indonesian Idol, will host the show.
As the lead-up up to the series, all participants will take vocal coaching, choreography lessons, media visits and radio interviews. An on-air series chronicling their experiences, titled Asian Idol Extra will run from Nov 24 - Dec 14, 1630 to 1700 hours.
The Road to Asian Idol episode on Dec 9 is a compilation of clippings of the Idol experiences of each participant. Following that is a 2-hour Asian Idol Performance Show scheduled on Dec 15 to showcase the actual competition in Jakarta with each Idol singing in their native language and an English song. The Asian Idol Result Show on Dec 16 is the grand finale to reveal the winner of Asian Idol as well as to feature artistes from participating countries.
Prior to the Asian Idol competition, the Indonesian participant will be selected via text messaging votes, with the first and second episodes dedicated to showcasing the winners of Indonesia Idols 1 - 4 and results on Nov 24 and Dec 1 respectively.
Daniel Hartono, Project Director of Asian Idol said, “Asian Idol will offer a unique perspective to the various culture and music of every country.”
