Blackmagic Design Singapore adds new Autodesk Flint systems

23 January 2008

Singapore: Post-production house Blackmagic Design Singapore has purchased new Autodesk Flint systems as part of recent upgrades to its facility. The company is using Flint to handle compositing and visual effects tasks for TVCs as well as feature film digital intermediate and 2K work.
Having acquired two Flint systems in mid-2007, Blackmagic Design now owns four Flint suites to network and share media libraries. The collaborative workflow allows setups between suites to be shared and work to be done simultaneously at different locations around the facility.
Flint is a complementary solution to other Autodesk visual effects and finishing applications used by Blackmagic Design including Maya and 3ds Max stations. With 95% of its long form work in HD, all of Blackmagic Design’s suites are capable of HD work. It also provides ingest of HD rushes, mastering and dubbing, as well as standards conversions and cross conversions for dubs for multiple markets.
Blackmagic Design will be working on the fourth commercial in Hewlett Packard’s Hands TVC series using the collaborative workflow between its Flint suites for photo-realistic 3D, 3D tracking and multi-layer compositing work. The post house is also working on international feature film Dance of the Dragon where dailies are scanned at 2K to allow the director of photography and director to see the full quality and potential of the images shot. DI work is being done using Flint running on Linux.
