BBC Worldwide’s programming goes on MySpace

24 January 2008

London - BBC Worldwide and MySpace have partnered to provide BBC programmes to the social networking website’s 100 million users via a dedicated MySpaceTV channel.

Starting from Jan 24, BBC Worldwide’s content will be available in seven languages across the 27 territories that MySpaceTV is currently serving. BBC and MySpace will share advertising and channel or genre sponsorship revenue. The agreement follows a similar deal struck between BBC Worldwide and YouTube in March 2007.

Clips to be provided on MySpace will be of short form content of two-minute length. However, clips from new BBC Worldwide programmes will only be available on the MySpaceTV channel half a year after airing on BBC’s public service channels in UK. The shows are available on the iPlayer on-demand TV service operated by the licence fee-funded division of BBC prior to MySpace.

BBC Worldwide’s MySpaceTV channel will initially provide 150 clips across seven genres including comedy, drama, sci-fi, weird and wonderful, love earth, famous faces and Top Gear. Clips will include Meg Ryan and Victoria Beckham on Parkinson and scenes from Doctor Who, Torchwood and Robin Hood, as well as comedy from Red Dwarf and The Catherine Tate Show. Besides watching the clips on BBC Worldwide’s MySpaceTV channel, users are can share and embed them on their MySpace profiles.
