Portico Media and Vividas to offer online streaming HD service in Taiwan
22 February 2008
Taipei/Melbourne - Portico Media, a Taiwanese cross-platform media company and Vividas, a video streaming technology provider, have partnered to bring a HD video streaming service to Taiwan. The agreement is also part of the latter’s efforts to expand into Asia Pacific.
Using the Australia-developed, scalable Vividas live streaming technology, Portico Media plans to stream movies and sports content on pay-per-view (PPV) basis. According to Portico’s general manager Jay Lin, there is “enormous local demand” for HD quality content. He said, “(The Taiwanese) government is pushing for the adoption of HD in our region which is great news for continued growth in the live streaming of sports events with superior quality.”
Although there are various Internet setups already providing PPV or subscription-based services, Portico’s planned service is expected to be the first to offer HD content. Specializing in content production and distribution, the company has already streamed the National Football League via IPTV previously.
Dave Winter, CEO, Vividas Asia-Pacific said, “Vividas’ unique live technology enables delivery of broadcast quality live vision to a mass audience without the serious ’quality of service’ issues that plague competitor technologies, when delivering to a large audience of concurrent users.”
