UK: Visual effects software developer, The Foundry, has released the fifth version of its compositing application, Nuke.

Nuke 5 features a new user interface, expanded support for scripting, support for stereoscopic workflow, the ability to read, process and write over a thousand channels per stream, as well as support for EXR images.

Targeting to improve the user’s experience, the new user interface offers augmentations to the existing floating window layouts with a flexible panes and panels system, as well as per-node mask inputs, and expanded LUT support for file I/O colourspace conversion.

To expand on its scripting capabilities, The Foundry has also added support for the Python scripting language for the version 5 release. For stereoscopic projects, The Foundry has also included a framework for multi-view compositing in Nuke 5.

Available on Linux, Windows, and Mac platforms Nuke delivers a multi-channel scanline rendering engine and a feature set for desktops. Now shipping, Nuke 5 is priced at US$3,500 with render nodes priced at US$250, with the annual maintenance and support contract prices at US$1,000 per GUI license. Nuke 5 is available for existing customers with a valid maintenance contract for no additional cost, downloadable at www.thefoundry.co.uk
