AETN Int’l to make History on KT’s MegaTV

Cannes – AETN International, a division of A&E Television Networks (AETN), has sealed a deal with Korea Telecom (KT) to launch a branded HD VOD service for TV network, History, in Korea. To debut in summer 2008, the History HD VOD service will be part of MegaTV, KT’s IPTV service which provides interactive and on-demand services to subscribers.
Programming to be available on the History HD VOD service includes Cities of the Underworld, Lost Worlds, Engineering an Empire, and Dogfights. Fabienne Fourquet, director, international digital media, AETN International said, “KT is our first Asian HD VOD partnership and we expect to roll out additional HD VOD services globally this year.”
History features programming that covers topics including ancient, contemporary and military history as well as conflict, technology and transport. It is currently available in 135 countries to 235 million TV households, and is the only international TV network focusing exclusively to historical programming including series, specials and documentaries. AETN International has launched HD VOD services for History, BIO and A&E around the world, including the US, UK, Germany and Spain, in addition to the upcoming service on KT’s MegaTV.
In Korea, MegaTV currently offers 78,000 titles across various genres and has secured 550,000 users since launch in July 2007. AETN’s The History Channel launched in Korea in March 2002 and is operated locally by JoongAng Broadcasting Corp.
