National Geographic Channel celebrates decade in Asia
2 May 2008
Singapore - National Geographic Channel (NGC) is marking its 10th anniversary in Asia with a regional marketing campaign that includes an inaugural online poll for 30 of the channel’s most popular programming from April 30-May 20, 2008.
Open to viewers from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia, a special video portal has been created at www.ngcasia.com/top30 to offer 50 video clips of the highest-rated NGC documentaries. Grouped in 6 sub-genres, the 30 shows with the most votes will air on 30 consecutive nights in June 2008 on NGC across Asia, fronted by various international and Asian artistes including Hong Kong’s Paul Wong, the Philippines’ Donita Rose, Singapore’s Allan Wu and Malaysia’s Azharina Azhar. A trip to Antarctica is also being offered as a prize for viewers taking part in the poll.
In NGC’s ten years in Asia, the channel’s distribution has expanded to over 120 million homes and commercial establishments including day-part homes across Asia Pacific. Catering to viewers with different thematic choices, the channel has launched four complementary 24-hour pay-TV channels including National Geographic Channel HD, National Geographic Channel VOD, Nat Geo Adventure and Nat Geo Wild. It has also won various industry awards including Promax and BDA.
NGC also set up a production unit in Asia to groom documentary filmmakers in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Korea, with a number of Asia-made documentaries for global audiences including Becoming a King, Kung Fu Killers, Hiss of Death, Marco Polo: The China Mystery Revealed, and Inside The Forbidden City.
