Avid to roll out new VideoRAID solutions from Q2 2008

7 May 2008

USA: Avid Technology, Inc., has unveiled the next-generation of its storage disk arrays, the Avid VideoRAID ST and Avid VideoRAID SR solutions which combine serial advanced technology attachment (SATA) drive technology and fail-safe data protection.
Providing full performance and data protection while drives are being rebuilt in the background, Avid VideoRAID solutions offer real-time playback of up to two streams of uncompressed HD on eight Avid VideoRAID drives. The products provide parity protection using the RAID (redundant array of inexpensive disks) technology which can handle multiple streams of uncompressed SD and HD media and offer capacity ranging from 2.5 - 16TB per editing system.
In a 5-drive tower (ST) or a 16-drive rack mount (SR) configuration, Avid VideoRAID ST/SR disk arrays support a range of Avid editing systems including the recently announced Media Composer, Symphony Nitris and NewsCutter family of products, as well as third-party applications, via an industry-standard serial attached (SCSI) interconnect.
New VideoRAID ST and SR customers will be offered a three-year warranty on drive mechanisms and enclosures, with exchange of replacements parts at no additional cost.
Avid’s VideoRAID solutions will begin shipping from Q2 2008 with 2.5TB configurations starting from US$4,795. Information on the new offerings is available at www.avid.com/videoraidST
