Regional telcos to bring in Apple’s iPhone to Asia

SingTel, Bharti Airtel, Globe and Optus have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Singapore, India, the Philippines and Australia respectively, later this year. Further information on the availability will be released at a later date.

The iPhone is an Internet-enabled multimedia mobile handset with a multi-touch screen with virtual keyboard and buttons. Its functions include camera phone, portable media player, text messaging and video voicemail, as well as e-mail and web browsing capabilities, along with Wi-Fi connectivity. iPhone is a quad-band handset using the GSM standard, and supports the EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) data technology.
