Doha – Al Jazeera Network sealed five distribution deals in the Philippines to extend 24-hour English-language global news channel Al Jazeera English’s availability to 500,000 households in the country.
The new carriage deals cover the licensing of Al Jazeera English to Global Destiny Cable, the second largest cable TV company in the Philippines, Royal Cablevision Corporation, Eaglevision, and Ultravision Cable TV, as well as the simulcast of Al Jazeera English on ABS-CBN News Channel every weekday from 4 – 4.30pm.
The Filipino deals add to Al Jazeera English’s reach to more than 110million households worldwide. Launched November 2006, Al Jazeera English aims to be the channel of reference for Middle East events and to balance information flow from South to North. The network is supported by broadcast centres in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington DC.
