26 May 2008

Delhi/Singapore – From July 1, 2008, Discovery Networks International will integrate its businesses in India and Asia, promoting Rahul Johri, senior vice president, advertising sales, Discovery Networks India, to senior vice president and country manager, to take on management responsibility for India.
Johri reports to Tom Keaveny, executive vice president and managing director, Discovery Networks Asia. Deepak Shourie, executive vice president and managing director, Discovery Networks India, assumes the new role of advisor, corporate affairs, India.
Company says the integration recognizes the alignment, synergies and partnership between the India and Asia operations.
1995-launched Discovery Networks India, currently distributes Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Travel & Living to 91million cumulative subscribers across seven territories, and will be managed directly by Johri out of the company’s Indian HQ in Delhi, supported by offices in Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai.
Greg Ricca, president & CEO, Discovery Networks International said, “The integration of our India and Asia operations will position Discovery more competitively in the region by allowing us to collaborate across both businesses and more effectively share content and resources in order to drive continued growth.”
Johri joined Discovery in 2001 from IMG and has served as head of advertising sales with additional responsibility for the region’s research and communications functions. Shourie managed Discovery Networks India since 2001 and oversaw the launch of Discovery Travel & Living in India in 2004; revamped Discovery Channel’s programming and marketing strategies; as well as managed the creation of the One Alliance distribution JV with Sony Entertainment Television.
