BMD Singapore ramps up service with second da Vinci Resolve and Lasergraphics scanner

24 June 2008

Singapore: Blackmagic Design Singapore shored up its position as one of Asia’s leading post-production facilities with the purchase of its second da Vinci Resolve Data Grading System and a second Lasergraphics Director film scanner.
In fact, the addition of the latest 350 version of the da Vinci Resolve make Blackmagic Design (BMD) Singapore the first to be equipped with the fastest and most powerful data grading system in the world. As a da Vinci worldwide beta test site, BMD Singapore enjoys a close working relationship with the principle.
“Over eighteen months ago, we carried out extensive evaluations of all the leading data grading systems on the market and found that the da Vinci Resolve provided the best combination of image quality, workflow efficiency and cost effectiveness,” said Peter Barber, director of creative services.
“Now that it was time to acquire our second grading system we did our due diligence once again and found that da Vinci was still way ahead of the competition,” he added.
The latest purchase of a second Lasergraphics Director Film Scanner represents the fourth film scanner that BMD Singapore has acquired in the last two years, enabling the facility to handle more projects simultaneously.
“We can grade in our two da Vinci Resolve suites while simultaneously scanning reels for a further two projects. That means four projects all at the same time,” Barber explained.
The additional gear makes BMD Singapore the first post-production house to offer a fully data-centric commercial post workflow from dailies to final grade without a traditional telecine machine.
“We have proven over the past 18 months that we can make the feature film 2K DI workflow work at television commercial speeds giving our TVC clients unprecedented quality far superior to traditional telecine and our feature film clients DI, VFX and grading at television commercial speeds. Our infrastructure and workflow also give us greater flexibility to offer our clients deliverables at data, HD or SD or all of the above depending upon the project,” said Barber.
