Sonifex launches inaugural broadcast video product

18 June 2009

In a bid to meet market demand for video equivalents, Sonifex is showcasing new products and its first broadcast video product Redbox RB-VHDA8 at booth 7N3-10 in Hall 7 of BroadcastAsia 09.

The Redbox RB-VHDA8 is a one input, eight output high performance 3G/HD/SD-SDI distribution amplifier for re-clocking and distributing a 3G, HD-SDI or SD-SDI source to eight outputs.

"The products that we’re developing at the moment are audio for TV products and we’re also ’dipping a toe’ into the market for video products. We get a lot of compliments from customers about the Redbox range of audio interfaces and have had a number of requests for video equivalents," revealed Marcus Brooke, managing director.

RB-VHDA8 provides automatic input detection, re-clocking and cable equalisation of the input signal to 200/400 metres (HD/SD) of coax cable. The full range of SD, HD and 3G standards are supported by the unit, allowing NTSC and PAL composite digital signals right up to component digital signals at 1080p 60Hz.

The rear panel has a single female BNC connector for the 3G/HD/SD-SDi input and a further eight female BNC connectors for the outputs. Each output is buffered providing driven outputs for greater reliability.

As well as an AC power input on a filtered IEC, the unit also has an adjacent 12V DC input on a 2.5mm co-axial connector, for use, for example, in outside broadcast vehicles. Both power inputs can be used to give a dual redundant power supply; whichever voltage is higher will be used.
