Asia Media Festival set for a big splash in 2007

31 October 2007

Singapore: The Asia Media Festival 2007 (AMF 2007), the regional business platform for the media industry held from Nov. 14 - Dec. 4 in Singapore, is set to be bigger this year with a marked increase in participation as well as the debut of new events.
Hosted by the Media Development Authority of Singapore and organized by Reed Exhibitions in collaboration with key industry partners, AMF 2007 is expecting 5,400 trade participants, up 16% from 2006, and new events Apollo Awards and Asia Factual Forum (AFF), as well as Promax/BDA Asia 2007 Awards which rejoins AMF, to add to the festival's anchor events.
Making its bow in AMF is Apollo Awards, a technical and creative award to recognize the region's best in advertising, animation, production, and post production industries. 421 entries from 10 countries are vying for the honours in 14 categories.
Also new is AFF, a networking and 'match-making' event for commissioning editors and regional documentary makers targeted to promote co-production of factual content; while Promax/BDA Asia 2007 Awards recognizes excellence in on-air promotion, branding and advertising.
Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Christopher Chia, CEO, MDA and Yeow Hui Leng, Project Director, Reed Exhibitions, both expressed confidence that AMF 2007 will yield deals exceeding the $US47.1 million mark set in 2006, which surpassed 2005's $US33 million worth of deals by 42%.
Key AMF events to have recorded growth include the Asian Television Awards which garnered 1,374 entries, up from 1,331 in 2006, and has included Australia and New Zealand for the first time; as well as Asian Festival of 1st Films which attracted 500 entries up from 300 entries last year.
