Sony launches OLED field display with unique technology
10 May 2010
Singapore - Sony recently introduced its new PVM-740 is the first field display to use an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display panel with Sony’s unique Super Top Emission technology to efficiently deliver superb high contrast and vibrant color images, even in adverse lighting conditions.
“Another breakthrough innovation from Sony, the PVM-740 is the industry’s first OLED professional field monitor with Super Top Emission technology. With its excellent contrast, enhanced glare resistance, precisely vivid images and a full complement of functionalities, it sets the standard for critical field monitoring,” said Paul Maroni, assistant general manager of live productions, business professional products for Sony Asia Pacific.
Incorporating a 10-bit panel driver, the 7.4-inch high-resolution portable monitor creates life-like and smoother-than-ever gradation from dark to bright portions of a scene, such as in a sunrise or sunset. Its high-contrast imagery allows the deep black of a night scene be accurately displayed without the black portion of the image being raised, even in a low-illumination edit suite. As the black color is deep, peak brightness becomes more intense and can brilliantly express sparkling town lights and stars in the night sky.
Sony said its blur-free, quick response to fast motion is perfect for sports or camera monitoring during panning and text scrolling. With its picture contrast greater than a CRT display, it is less affected by ambient light, allowing images to be viewed even in strong sunlight.
