Singapore - Starting today, stereoscopic 3D TV will begin its one-year test trial across various terrestrial TV, cable TV and Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) platforms in Singapore.
Announced by the Media Development Authority of Singapore(MDA), the trial will partner broadcasters MediaCorp, Starhub and Singtel.
Other technology partners involved include Panasonic, Ross Video, Evertz, XpanD and Multimedia Maestro.
As part of the one-year trial, trial partners will be able to test their transmission signals on different platforms and address technical challenges in the delivery of 3D content to homes.
Deputy CEO of Television, MediaCorp, Chang Long Jong says that MediaCorp will start to produce 3D content, starting with the recording and post production of the 2010 National Day Parade. Chang adds that they will also commence its technical trials this month to determine the most suitable technology standard.
Apart from leading the trial, MDA will also launch a S$5 million fund to facilitate the trial and drive the development of content, talent and media services in the area of 3D.
