Taiwan’s National Communications Commission elects Herng as chairwoman
9 August 2010
Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) has elected National Chengchi University Journalism Department Chairperson Su Herng as its new chairwoman to succeed Bonnie Peng, reports Taiwan News.
The terms of Peng and three other members ran out, and only one of the four was reappointed to a new term. All seven members, including the new ones, met to elect Su, 55, as chairwoman and maintain Chen Cheng-hang as vice chairman and spokesman.
The NCC includes specialists in telecommunications, information technology, media, finance and law.
Previous media reports said Peng felt isolated amid infighting between various factions within the NCC. She denied the allegations, and said she was leaving after two years in office instead of the usual four years because that was the agreement she had reached when first taking over in 2008.
