Across the pond

Netflix is set to launch in the UK and Ireland in early 2012.

In a statement, the company said consumers have unlimited access to films for a monthly subscription, and that a wide variety of electronic devices will be compatible with the service. More detail on content and pricing would be given at a later date.

The announcement of this move across the Atlantic, follows latest news of the company losing an estimated 800,000 subscribers in the US, due to a recent price increase and a new plan to separate movie offerings into two – one providing movies for streaming over the internet, and the other offering traditional DVDs via mail.

In the US, the service is currently available on 700 devices, from Microsoft’s Xbox 360 to Apple TV.
