Award winning AJA Ki Pro portable digital disk recorder demo in Singapore
The AJA Ki Pro portable portable digital disk recorder, which won a host of awards at NAB 2009, wowed key players of Singapore’s production and post industry at a special demo session held at SMU campus.
AJA Video Systems product manager Jon Thorn and Eric Hamilton, CEO of Pacific Portals were on hand to demonstrate the Ki Pro which has the ability to record files to the Apple ProRes 422 codec directly from camera, allowing filmmakers, broadcasters and video professionals immediate access to 10-bit full raster edit-ready Apple ProRes 422 files.
At NAB this year, Ki Pro was awarded the Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award, the DV Black Diamond Award, the TV Technology Star Award, and the Videography Magazine Vidy Award. Products awarded are selected by a panel of industry experts, engineers and journalists based on the most innovative new technologies introduced at the annual NAB conference.
"We've been developing Ki Pro since 2007, and before it was formally launched, companies like Apple, ARRI, Canon, JVC and RED let us know how excited they were about it," said Thorn. "Nothing could have prepared us for the overwhelming reception at NAB. Our booth was swamped throughout the show, and the industry awards are an honor and affirmation of the hard work that went into releasing Ki Pro."
The core features of the Ki Pro include:
• Record hours of ProRes media to a removable storage module with built-in FireWire 800, or to 34mm Expresscard Flash, for immediate editing and file access.
• Record natively to Apple ProRes 422 for full raster 10-bit 4:2:2 HD and SD.
• Connect any digital camera via SDI or HDMI, or any analogue camera with multiple input options.
• Convert in real time from SD to HD, or 720 to/from 1080, in full 10-bit quality.
• Extend productive life of existing cameras and embrace future workflows with powerful conversion capabilities.
• Built-in WiFi and Ethernet
The product demo is part of a global road show in support of the Ki Pro launch, hitting 23 cities across Asia Pacific, Europe and North and South America. Ki Pro will be on display at the Broadcast Asia 2009 (Hall 8, Booth 8J3-01) from 16-19 June 2009.
