Dolby’s professional reference monitor makes BroadcastAsia debut
Singapore – Systems integrator Media Village introduced the Dolby PRM-4200 Professional Reference Monitor to visitors this week at BroadcastAsia. Dolby’s 42-inch flat-panel monitor is being touted as the replacement to CRTs.
The LED-backlit LCD panel PRM-4200 boasts true black levels, highly accurate dark detail, and the most precise color accuracy possible, across a wide dynamic range at all luminance levels and in all formats. “At the end of the day, if you’re talking about high-end reference monitors, what you’re basically looking is a wide viewing angle and a true black levels. The Dolby PRM-4200 has a viewing area of plus/minus 45 degrees, and changes very smoothly from black to grey,” said Patrick de Silva, director of Media Village.
Built to exacting standards, the Dolby PRM-4200 replaces an entire collection of costly monitors that may currently be used for color correction, mastering and quality control. Support for 3D LUTs allows the PRM-4200 to be calibrated to perfectly match digital screening environments, and to emulate the response of film-print stocks during the DI color correction process. It also supports DCI P3, all HD formats over HD-SDI, and 2K video content.
The Dolby PRM-4200 Professional Reference Monitor has a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The backlight consusts of 1,500 RGB LED triads, with the light element from each R, G and B element independently controlled, frame by frame, to create a full-color backlit image.
The Dolby PRM-4200 has an MSRP of US$39,000.
