Harris showcases latest broadcast workflow solutions

Harris Corporation showcases an array of innovative products at BroadcastAsia 09 which enable broadcasters to cost-effectively implement an advanced media workflow that manages every stage of the content lifecycle and allow broadcasters to profit from new revenue streams in both traditional and emerging business models.

The latest enhancements to the Harris NEXIO broadcast server portfolio and storage area network (SAN) architecture will be on display. These address the growing demands of broadcasters to achieve greater operational efficiency without sacrificing functionality and flexibility.

Harris also demos its NEXIO mCAPTURE compressed media stream recorder which allows content from transport streams - including digital satellite feeds - to be brought into the NEXIO AMP advanced media platform without the need to decode the content to baseband.

ASI and IPTV sources can be ingested from multi-programme transport stream sources and stored as a single programme transport stream. Once ingest begins into NEXIO AMP, the content can reap the full benefits of the NEXIO SAN, including on-SAN editing, up/down/cross conversion and HD/SD baseband playout - resulting in substantial workflow efficiency and significant cost savings.

The ongoing migration to high-definition television broadcasting brings with it the need to efficiently move massive amounts of data, and Harris addresses this requirement with enhanced bandwidth capabilities for the NEXIO SAN.

Harris will also showcase its NEXIO Browse suite for the first time in Asia at the show. Part of the Harris NewsForce HD/SD news platform, NEXIO Browse is a comprehensive portfolio of tools that facilitate H.264 proxy viewing and editing, enabling broadcasters to implement an affordable and scalable low-resolution workflow.
