MediaCorp goes OTT with Oregan Networks
London, United Kingdom, and Singapore – Oregan Networks announced that it has been selected by MediaCorp as a key enabler of its upcoming Over-the-Top (OTT) interactive TV service on set top boxes. Oregan Media Browser will provide the media player and run-time environment for the user interface applications, which allow users to interact with live and on-demand content via on-screen graphical overlays.
Oregan Media Browser incorporates adaptive bitrate streaming of high definition video assets – a key ingredient that allows for dynamic adjustment of stream quality to match real network conditions. The set top box platform is remotely upgradeable, to allow MediaCorp to future-proof its service and application offerings.
The new service is designed to take advantage of the country’s highly developed broadband infrastructure and the upcoming next generation broadband network for delivery of its vast library of content to Singaporeans.
In addition to LIVE programmes, ‘catch-up’ services and VoD, MediaCorp plans to incorporate both standalone and contextual browser-based applications, such as voting, social networking, and related content.
MediaCorp’s Vice President, Technology Services for Interactive Media, Seow Yoke Kong said, “Oregan’s media browser platform, as well as their expertise in delivering secure, flexible and cost effective consumer media products, enables us to meet our delivery times and future-proof the product.”
He added, “Oregan’s platform allows us to offer real-time, web-style interactivity that significantly adds to the entertainment value of our programming and provides an opportunity to engage with subscribers on a more personalised level.”
