Polecam’s 7th Heaven elevates to SE Asia markets

Polecam introduced 7th Heaven, the longest truly portable camera jib to Southeast Asia markets with demos at BroadcastAsia 09 at booth number 8K4-01 at Hall 8. While the previous five-element Polecam had a six-metre reach, 7th heaven uses seven elements to achieve an eight metre reach, giving greater versatility to horizontal and vertical camera movement.

"The standard Polecam has been in production for over ten years. 7th Heaven is made possible by a new method of manufacturing the carbon fibre boom from a combination of laminated and spun carbon-fibre. The eight metre reach provides a dramatic increase in the creative possibilities while still retaining the portability and discreet on-screen profile. We have also implemented the new boom formulation in the standard Polecam, making it stronger and more rigid,” said Polecam founder Steffan Hewitt.

Making a splash at BroadcastAsia 09 is the FishFace SwimAlone combined underwater head and waterproof HD/SD camera housing. It includes a clamp and threaded tripod-mounting socket attachable to the Polecam jib or other immersion devices.

A waterproof gland seals the camera cable at the entry to the housing, eliminating the need to cut and re-splice the cable. A waterproof plug and socket are provided for iris control. The complete head and waterproof housing can be used to a depth of 10 metres while the operator remains safely at the surface. Fishface SwimAlone can deliver unrestricted movement including 360-degree pan capability.

Also on display is the Universal RCP MkIII remote control, part of Polecam’s range of transportable video production equipment. It provides comprehensive control of up to five different camera types via a single highly robust data channel. The only function that requires set-up is the camera channel-select switch. All other functions, including baud rate selection and camera type, are fully automatic. A single pan, tilt and iris drive connector is provided for integration with a Polecam jib.
