Without wishing to sound like a scratched record (if anyone else remembers what one of those looks like), the TV industry is constantly evolving. Whether keeping pace with the technology, or consumer behaviour, or a combination of both, it would be naïve and short-sighted to ignore other, non-traditional, viewing platforms.

As ESPN STAR Sports’ MD Manu Sawhney puts it, “The lines between platforms are blurring, disappearing, so fast that we don’t have the luxury to sit back and think just in terms of TV any more.”

And chatting with Franz Caduc, charged with Reed Midem’s new trade show Amazia, while we can’t predict where the TV industry is going, we need to support it by exposing it to potential platform cross-over. Internet, gaming, mobile and music should be viewed as complementary, rather than cannibalizing, influences on the industry.

Which is one of the reasons why we’ve rebranded the magazine, annual guide and its e-products as Television Asia Plus. While television is, and always will be, our core business, the Plus encompasses the opportunities afforded by other industries and viewing screens. Our website also has a new look and URL, www. onscreenasia.com, as we come together on-line with our sibling publication Asia Image and the ever-growing Asian Television Awards.

In closing, I’d like to thank Don Groves and the Television Asia Plus team for all their hard work in 2007. Don, although concentrating on other projects in 2008, thankfully remains very much part of the team as Contributing Editor. It only remains for me to wish you a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
