What is FORMAT SUPERPITCH?

FORMAT SUPERPITCH is the region’s premium pitching event for aspiring and experienced professionals in TV production. Organised by renowned industry publications Asia Image and Television Asia Plus magazine, FORMAT SUPERPITCH invites entries from around the region – with the shortlisted finalists getting the chance to pitch their idea live, at the Asia TV Forum, to a panel of expert judges.

FORMAT SUPERPITCH is part of Asia Television Forum 2009 (ATF) – Asia’s largest conference and market attended by professionals from over 40 countries. FORMAT SUPERPITCH offers contestants rare access to a panel of commissioning editors and executives from channels, networks and content creation companies in the region.

Shortlisted entrants will be expected to conduct a pitching session in person. The session comprises: a five-minute pitch, followed by a question and answer session with the judges.

Who is eligible to take part in FORMAT SUPERPITCH?

FORMAT SUPERPITCH is open to all studios, production houses and tertiary education institutions whose primary base is in any Asia Pacific country, including: Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, North Korea, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

What type of projects are suitable and what should be submitted?

Contestants are to send in the concept for their new format, which can be in any genre but should be a non-scripted or scripted format, complete with supporting materials.

A TV programme format is generally copyrighted, designed to be transferable and with the potential to be adapted or produced under license in other markets, languages.

Contestants are required to submit the following materials:

• Completed entry form

• Proposed production budget (indicate sources of funding, if any)

• Production schedule (estimate number of days required for pre-production, production, post production)

• Any supporting materials; including but not limited to word documents, PowerPoint slides, flash presentations, video clips, animatics, pre-visualisation, trailers, character sketches, storyboards, scripts, paintings, photos, illustrations etc.

Is there an entry fee?

No, companies and tertiary educational institutions can submit as many entries as they like – so long as entries have not already been commissioned or are already in production.

How does the selection process work?

Entry forms are available at www.onscreenasia.com/superpitch. Entries must be received on or before Friday, 30 October 2009. A selection committee will then select the best six SUPERPITCH entries. Short-listed companies will be notified by 6 November 2009.

When and where will the pitching session take place?

FORMAT SUPERPITCH will take place on the afternoon of Thursday, 3 December 2009, as part of the Asia TV Forum being held at Suntec City, Singapore.

What does the competition entail?

Short-listed entrants pitch their ideas to a specially-selected panel of commissioning editors and senior executives from networks and content creation companies in the Asia Pacific region. Competitors have five minutes to pitch their concept, followed by a question and answer session with the judges.

All entries and supporting materials must be received by Friday, 30 October 2009. A list of finalists will be posted on www.onscreenasia.com/superpitch on 9 November, 2009. Finalists will be notified by 6 November, 2009.

Finalists must be prepared to pitch their projects in person at ATF in Singapore Suntec City on Thursday, 3 December, 2009. The language medium for the pitches shall be English. The shortlisted pitchers are to arrange their own travel to and accommodation in Singapore.

Entry Criteria

FORMAT SUPERPITCH is open to any company or tertiary education institution that specialises in producing creative content in any genre. The company’s or institution’s primary base must be located in a country situated within the Asia Pacific region.

All entries must be based on original content wholly developed by the contesting company. Such content should be deemed appropriate for broadcasting over electronic visual media platforms.

Contestants are required to submit the following materials:

• Completed entry form

• Proposed production budget (indicate sources of funding, if any)

• Production schedule (estimate number of days required for pre-production, production, post production)

• Any supporting materials; including but not limited to word documents, PowerPoint slides, flash presentations, video clips, animatics, pre-visualisation, trailers, character sketches, storyboards, scripts, paintings, photos, illustrations etc.

Rules and Regulations

All submissions must be entered using official entry form and signed by one of the following: company president, CEO or managing director and must include a company stamp; course tutor, senior lecturer or academic supervisor of the tertiary education institution plus official stamp.

All entries must not have been commissioned for production prior to and during the contest period.

All submitted original materials must be copyrighted, with rights owned by the submitting party. All non original copyrighted materials (i.e. music, songs footage) must have received official clearance for their respective reproduction or use prior to submission.

All entries and supporting materials must be received by Friday, 30 October 2009.

A list of finalists will be posted on www.onscreenasia.com/superpitch on 12 November, 2009. Finalists will be notified by 10 November, 2009.

Finalists must be prepared to pitch their projects in person at ATF in Singapore Suntec City on Thursday, 3 December, 2009. The language medium for the pitches shall be English.

The shortlisted pitchers are to arrange their own travel and accommodation to and in Singapore. The organisers will not be bearing any such travel and accommodation costs, and shall not be responsible for any associated claims and refunds.

The organisers reserve all rights to make any changes to the rules and regulations whenever is deemed necessary.

All materials and relevant information submitted for the contest are deemed appropriate for use by the organisers for the purpose of advertising, publicising and promoting the event. No further consent shall be necessary.
